Our story

Curious Soups (and such) is a Boston-based food company producing healthy, high quality, locally-sourced (when available), fresh artisan soups and stocks started by Bobby Sansom, a local Boston “curious foodie” who wanted to make a quality product for people who are curious about discovering new food flavors and spins on familiar recipes, and enjoy sharing their food experiences with others.

History

I admit fully – I was first inspired to create a soup company after watching the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld, and originally intended for it to be a possible project after I retire from the world of high-tech corporate business. One day however, after nearly pulling my hair out from the stress of the tech world, I said to myself – “When I’m through with all of these high-stress tech ventures – I’m going to focus on what I love the most – cooking and quality food… maybe I’ll start my soup company.” Then it occurred to me – “Why should I wait to retire to do what I love?” And so the idea was born.

A “Curious” philosophy

People have asked me “What’s the ‘Curious’ mean in the name, is it the recipes that are so curious?” Although I do try to come up with recipes that feature new flavors, or flavors that one just might not expect, the name is derived from the simple fact that I’m so curious! Curious about food, about life, about people, about sustainability, about doing things better for the world and our time in it.

Soup is social

For me, soup is a social experience and best served in the company of friends. In fact, each recipe I create is inspired by the social experiences I’ve had while meeting people, traveling the world (or downtown), trying new cuisines (or tried-and-true recipes from Grandma’s cook book), and the stories that go with them. I then take those experiences, think of the flavors that represent them, cook up a few batches of soup and host a “Soup Night” for a group of diverse friends (that often haven’t met before) to test the flavors and create a new experience.

I want Curious Soups to be part of your experiences, and to help feed your curiosity for food and life. I want you to host your own “Soup Nights and invite friends from different circles. Eat the soups as is, or add additional ingredients to come up with your own new recipe. Improvise, learn, be curious, and share your results!
